Backwater valves are becoming increasing common for homeowners to install in Mississauga and nearby areas. It is a device that is normally installed on the main line that prevents sewage and waste water from flowing in reverse, into the house. If there is heavy rain and flooding or blockages in the line, there is an increased risk of waste water flowing into the home, normally the basement. This is a chaotic and messy situation that can cause a massive amount of damage, as well as health hazards. 

Backwater valves are fairly simple devices but have proven to be quite effective in preventing back flow. The valve has a flap inside which will automatically close when back flow is detected, blocking it from reversing inside. They do require regular maintenance to ensure that they will operate correctly when needed.
