The dripping bathroom faucet at 2 a.m. is not only a nuisance, it’s a waste of water and it is taking its toll on the valve seat each night. A dripping faucet in the bathroom can be a water waster of more than 3,000 gallons per year. It’s no small feat.
For more than 20 years, BOS Plumbing and Drains has been working in the GTA repairing leaking faucets in tubs, showers and sinks. Mississauga’s licensed residential plumbers arrive on time and do the job right on every job, from Mississauga to Oakville, Hamilton, Milton, Brampton, Niagara and Cambridge.
Most homeowners will be searching Google for “bath faucet dripping” and hope to find a solution that they can easily do. Sometimes that works. Typically, it doesn’t, as the cause of the drip is important.
This is typically what the drip is doing:
The most common problem in compression faucets is worn out washers. The washer is always tight against the valve seat when the water is on. That rubbing friction reduces it down to a point of annoyance in months and years so that you can push the handle all the way and still see a trickle of bathroom faucet dripping.
Leaks are found around the base of the spout when there are damaged O-rings. If the water is dripping from the bottom of the faucet, and not the tip, it’s most likely because the O ring is broken. Like ceramic disc faucets in newer homes in the GTA, they also develop cracks with sediment after a few years that lead to the problem.
Single-handle faucets are a common problem and it’s typically caused by a faulty cartridge. Once the cartridge becomes worn, you have no control over the temperature and the faucet drips. For tub faucets, this may manifest itself as a leak from the base and at the same time from the spout of the faucet.
Sediment can form in Hamilton and Oakville’s older water systems causing corroded valve seats. The sediment is located between the washer and the seat, and would cause wear to both quicker than the normal wear.
1 drip per second. That’s about a little more than 86,400 drips a day. You have lost six months’ worth of water from your house, and most likely introduced too much water behind the walls to trigger a mold problem.
Expert solutions for all your residential & commercial plumbing needs
We serve the Greater Toronto Area and surrounding regions with local expertise
A full service residential plumber that doesn’t just fix the obvious issue, but identifies the cause of the issue. Here are some of the things we do:
One of the most frequent problems that we receive in Mississauga and Brampton is a leaky faucet tub. We have the parts to repair your faucet with same day service for a two-handle faucet, single-lever cartridge or older compression faucet.
In older homes in the GTA, shower faucet repair may involve the removal and replacement of the “stems” that create the flow of water, as well as the replacement of the valve body due to mineral deposits that can form in the faucet. If the handle has gone loose the water temperature will not remain the same or if you’re getting rust coloured water out of the shower, please contact us before it gets any worse. We can replace shower fittings such as shower heads, and shower taps such as repairing pressure balancing valves which are required by the Ontario building code in any shower in a residential building.
If the valve body is cracked or seized, the only solution is to replace the valve body. Replacement shower valves, from brands such as American Standard, Kohler, Moen and Delta, are provided to fit your shower so it is correct. No Adapter, No Workaround.
There are times when it doesn’t make sense to pay to repair the fixture when it is aged and not in good condition. Our plumbers will be honest and let you know when it’s best to get a new shower faucet. We will assist you in selecting a replacement you will be able to use and take care of the complete installation.
The diagnosis is the same for any type of bathroom faucet repair, whether it’s a ball faucet, cartridge, or ceramic disc faucet repair of sink fixtures. We locate the leak, install the new part and test the supply lines and shut-off valves when we are under the vanity. Many leaks around the base of bathroom faucets are related to a faulty shut-off, rather than the faucet. We check both.
Bathroom faucets are not all alike. There are different kinds of faucet failures, caused by different reasons and knowing the type of faucet allows you to know what the best repair is.
We repair:
