Same-Day Kitchen Faucet Repair & Replacement Services in the GTA

The dribbling kitchen tap that you’ve been putting off maintenance on? It’s more than just a nuisance. A leaking kitchen faucet can lose as much as 11,000 litres of water in a year in a Canadian house. That’s genuine cash down the drain and it simply gets worse as time goes on.

BOS Plumbing and Drains have been repairing broken faucets in the kitchen area of homes throughout the GTA, Mississauga, Oakville, Hamilton, Brampton, Milton, Niagara and Cambridge for more than 20 years. We know all brands, all valves and all the trickiest leak locations a kitchen sink can present. So, if you call us, then you won’t be calling anyone else.

Why Your Kitchen Faucet Is Leaking And What It's Actually Costing You

Most often a leaking kitchen faucet does not escalate into a major issue. There is a drip flowing at the beginning. Then two drips. After a few seconds, you will come into the presence of a steady stream you learn to tune out.

It’s a symptom of this, typically:

Older cartridge / O-ring: Most modern single-handle faucets have an old cartridge or O-ring. Dry out or cracking of the O-rings inside of it allows water to get in. It’s easily solved with a switch of a cartridge.

Damaged ball valve: Ball style faucets contain small springs and seats in them. After a while, these will start to wear out and you will end up with a dripping kitchen tap that you can’t tighten. It takes a licensed plumber about 30 minutes to replace the ball assembly.

The valve seat is a place on the valve, where the valve seat and faucet meet to form the faucet head that has been corroded. Over time it is corroded by sediment build-up caused by hard GTA water. This means that the spout will still drip even if the handle is completely shut.

If the water is leaking around the base of the handle, but not through the spout, the packing nut under the handle has probably been lost. Easy to fix, but requires some knowledge of where to find it.

Fittings that crack or strip: On older homes (pre-2000), the fittings that connect the water supply lines to the faucets may crack or strip, leading to a leak. When kitchen tap leaks become a problem, it’s when they become a real emergency.

What’s broken is important since it’s different each time. We don’t guess. We make a diagnosis and then we provide you with a price.

What Does Kitchen Faucet Repair Actually Involve?

When a BOS plumber comes to do a kitchen faucet repair job, here’s what occurs:

We turn off the sink valves, put the faucet on and remove the handle assembly. Inspection of the cartridge, O-rings, seat and supply connections. If the faucet is repairable we get the correct parts and most of the repairs are completed the same day. While changing out the kitchen faucet may be a more viable option, we tell you that with pricing for both options and you decide.

We service all major faucet brands, such as Moen, Delta, Kohler, American Standard, Pfister, Grohe and local supply-house brands which are found in Hamilton and Niagara builds. Most kitchen water faucet repair jobs can be accomplished in one call since we bring replacements on the truck.

Is Your Kitchen Sink Clogged Too? We Handle That On The Same Visit

One of the most frequent plumbing callouts we receive in the Greater Toronto area, including the towns of Mississauga and Brampton are for a kitchen sink clogged due to soap scum, grease, or food debris. It’s also often accompanied by a faucet problem since the water runs too slowly, and people will believe that is the faucet’s fault.

While we’re there we also inspect the P-trap and drain connections under the sink. When something doesn’t seem right, we’ll mark it and take steps to prevent it from getting worse.

When Should You Call An Emergency Plumber For A Kitchen Faucet?

The majority of kitchen tap repair jobs are scheduled jobs. However, there are instances where there’s an emergency plumber required immediately:

  • The faucet handle snapped off and water won’t stop flowing
  • A supply line under the sink has burst or is visibly cracking
  • Water is dripping into the cabinet below and you can see cabinet damage starting
  • You’ve shut off the supply valve but water is still coming through (the valve itself has failed)
  • The faucet is broken and you have no second shutoff option in the house

In any of these cases, please contact BOS plumbing right away. Our licensed, insured and prepared plumbing professionals are a local emergency plumber that service the entire GTA and neighboring areas, and can make a rapid plumbing emergency repair when it’s needed. We will advise you before we arrive what the ETA is and the price will be told prior to beginning.

Should You Fix It Or Replace It? Here’s How To Think About It

This is a question that we get asked on a regular basis. Regrettably, the straightforward solution relies on a couple of aspects:

Faucet age: If the faucet is less than 10 years old, and it’s a quality brand, then it’s nearly always repairable. The internal components are in place, the repair has been successful and the faucet is still good for many years. It’s more practical to fix a kitchen tap that’s 6 years old, than to replace it.

Cost of parts vs new faucet: A medium price kitchen faucet at the Canadian Tire Home Depot store is $150-$400. Replace wins, if the repair is less than 50% the cost of a new faucet. Should the repair be more expensive (unusual but possibly on the more expensive imported models where parts are back ordered), we will state this.

Faucet body condition: These can be easily repaired with cartridge replacement and/or new O-rings. These are all indications that the faucet is past its usefulness: A body that is corroded, a cracked ceramic disc or a handle that has become stripped of its threading will no longer work as it should. When it’s time to change out the kitchen faucet we’ll let you know, and we have a selection of quality faucets on the trucks.

When a customer needs a job done with a $15 cartridge, we don’t charge them to replace. This is no way to do business for 20+ years in the GTA plumbing industry.
